What is the PTO?

What is the PTO and who can be a Member?
Our PTO is a Parent/Teacher Organization whose sole purpose is to enhance children’s educational experiences.  As with any organization, we have annual operational costs such as purchasing insurance, financial software, purchasing supplies, etc.  To offset these costs, we charge a minimal membership fee of $5 per family.  Becoming a member does not mean you automatically sign up to volunteer, it just means you support our group and believe in what we’re doing. Parents, caregivers, grandparents and school faculty can be members.

PTO Events and Programs

One of our main objectives as a PTO is to provide our school with funds, programs and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child.  To meet this objective, we must hold fundraisers throughout the year.  It is not our intention to have our families feel stressed about our fundraisers, but it is a necessary part of what we do.  The PTO helps fund activities such as grade level field studies, leadership development courses for staff and students, classroom programs, family events, 5th grade graduation, Holiday Shoppe, Spring Festival, staff appreciation, First in Math, technology, volunteer appreciation, etc.

Fundraising activities include:  Merchandise sales, Box Tops, catalog sales, Boosterthon, car line sales (biscuits, doughnuts and frozen yogurt) and restaurant nights which not only supports our school but also our local community business owners.

Volunteers
Volunteers are the lifeline of what we do. Volunteers assist the PTO and the school with events like our annual Hoot n Holler (Spring Festival), Family Nights (including Movie Night, Pork Chop Productions & Academic Workshops),  Monthly restaurant nights,  Staff Appreciation Events, Box Tops, Fundraisers, Picture Day, Book Fairs, Merchandise sales, etc….  The PTO manages over 50 activities each year and we depend on our volunteers to be successful.

“Over 500 independent studies on parent involvement show that when parents get involved in their children’s education grades go up, test scores improve, children are more likely to attend better schools after high school, they have fewer discipline problems and they’re less likely to use drugs and alcohol.
Get involved TODAY!”

We hope you will find we are about more than just fundraisers.  We are all parents working together toward supporting our school and helping provide a wonderful educational experience for our children.  We are just a small group, representing all of our families and we know we don’t have all of the answers.  Our organization has an open door to all of our members who want to share ideas, provide feedback and offer suggestions.

We invite you to join us at any of our Board meetings held once a month on a Monday at 6:30pm at the school.  Please be on the lookout for emails and Facebook updates for more information or you may contact us at meadowglenpto@gmail.com.
